Description
This product is a slightly yellow transparent liquid.
Pharmacological Action
Amitraz is an insecticide effective against various species of ticks, flies, and lice. Its primary mechanism of action is through contact toxicity, with additional stomach and systemic toxic effects. The insecticidal activity of amitraz is partially due to its inhibition of monoamine oxidase, an enzyme involved in the metabolism of amines in the nervous system of mites and ixodid ticks. As a result, blood-sucking arthropods become excessively stimulated, lose their ability to attach to the animal’s body, and fall off. The product acts slowly: lice and mites fall off within 24 hours of application, and ticks within 48 hours. A single treatment remains effective for 6–8 weeks, protecting the animal from reinfestation by external parasites. Amitraz also has a strong insecticidal effect against both large and small honeybee mites.
Action and Uses
Insecticide. Primarily used to eliminate ticks and also effective against mites, lice, and other external parasites.
Dosage and Administration
Medicated bath, spraying, or topical application: dilute to a concentration of 0.025%–0.05%.
For spraying honeybees: dilute to a concentration of 0.1%, using 1000 ml for 200 beehives.
Adverse Reactions
This product has low toxicity but is sensitive to equine species.
May cause mild irritation to the skin and mucous membranes.
Precautions
Do not use during lactation in dairy animals whose milk is intended for human consumption.
Do not use on bees during nectar collection periods if the honey is intended for human consumption.
Highly toxic to fish — prohibited for use near fish ponds and rivers to avoid contamination.
Use with caution in horses, as they are sensitive to this product.
This product is irritating to the skin; avoid contact with skin and eyes.
